Mock events have included throwing half a breeze block to emulate the shot-put
Workers on London’s 2012 Olympic Park have been staging their own version of the games, it was claimed today.
Newspaper The Sun reported that workers have been hurling a brickie’s mallet in a mock hammer field event and throwing half a breeze block to emulate the shot-put during lunch breaks at the 80,000-seat Olympic stadium in Stratford.
The most popular events however are said to be sprint races on the track which will host runners including Usain Bolt in August.
A worker told The Sun: “It’s fun. A guy who’s 17st 2lbs did the 200metres in 31 seconds. I was second in the hammer throw and got the bottom of a Pringles tube for my silver medal.”

So I'll call this as an April Fool. I can't see Seb Coe encouraging mallet flinging due to H&S and productivity issues. Although I enjoyed the Sun's picture of a builder doing the Fosbury Flop!
